01 / The Job

About the Job

CNC New has built and supported gang tool and Swiss-style lathes in Southern California for more than 30 years. We're looking for an experienced applications engineer and CNC programmer to make sample parts that show customers what our machines can do.

This is not an operator job, and we are not a production shop. Every project is different. You'll take a customer's drawing, plan the job, set up the machine, program it and deliver a finished sample part, working on your own from start to finish.

Why Work With Us

Your choice of contract or salary: take project work as a 1099 contractor, or join full time with sales upside.
No out-of-pocket costs: we cover travel, hotels, meals and project materials.
New challenges, no repetitive runs: each job brings a new part, fixture and cycle-time goal.
Modern machines: single and dual spindle gang tool lathes, Swiss-style lathes, live tooling and robot loaders.
You manage your own schedule. Rates are competitive.

Review customer drawings and decide whether a part can be machined, and how.
Choose the machine, cutting tools and workholding.
Design fixtures, collets and robot grippers.
Program at the machine or with CAD/CAM software.
Set up, run and inspect sample parts until they meet tolerance and cycle-time targets.
Estimate cycle times and tooling costs for sales quotes.
Write setup sheets and how-to guides.
Install machines and train customer operators.

05 / Requirements

What You Bring

Proven experience programming, setting up and proving out parts on CNC lathes, without supervision.
Hands-on experience with Swiss-type, gang tool or dual spindle lathes with live tooling.
Strong Fanuc (0i-TF Plus) and/or GSK (981TDi / 988TDi) programming skills, including macros and multi-channel work.
CAD/CAM skills for toolpaths, part models and fixture design.
Solid blueprint reading, GD&T and inspection skills (micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators).
Clear communication with customers, salespeople and machinists.
A valid driver's license and the ability to travel around Southern California.
